Contact is a collection of unique silver gelatin photograms created without the use of a camera. Each photogram is the record or residue of a physical interaction between body, medium, and light. Working in the container of the darkroom, I use my shadow and physical touch to respond to my materials, while acting through intuition and embodied memory. The resulting works translate this interaction and represent layers of distinct moments in time. What appear to be dimensional creases, folds, and wrinkles are in fact an illusion on a single rectangle of fiber photographic paper.
Contact was exhibited at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art in Davis, CA as part of the UC Davis MFA thesis exhibition.
