Community Scope
Through The Lens of Seeds is a collaboration between ecologist, Marina LaForgia, and artist, Arielle Rebek, that explores the traits and relationships of California annual grassland seeds. Rebek completed three projects in response to main concepts in LaForgia’s research. First, "Community Scope" includes three cyanotype prints that explore the relationship of seeds to their community of surrounding plants and the importance of sunlight in the germination process of many species. "Drought Effect" examines the effects of drought on species richness and abundance of annual grassland plants in the seed bank from two specific field sites. And lastly, "Annual Array" displays the diversity in plant seed traits and clues for seed dispersal.
The project was displayed in two pop-up exhibitions at the UC Davis Center for Plant Diversity in Davis, CA in April 2022.
